Henry H. Lowndes, Jr.  –  CEO & CFO

I was born in Charleston, SC in 1947 and grew up on Beaufain Street and later Tradd Street. I attended Memminger Elementary School and the High School of Charleston. I graduated from North Carolina State University, cum laude, in 1969 with a BS degree in Mathematics.

After college, I volunteered for the Navy, attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island, and was commissioned a reserve officer in April 1970. Until being honorable discharged in November 1972, I served as intelligence officer and navigator aboard the USS Robison (DDG-12) stationed in San Diego, California. While I was onboard, the ship made three transits across the Pacific Ocean and saw a good bit of action in the Vietnam War.  I actually remained in the Navy Reserve for another 23 years, retiring with the rank of Commander.

I joined my father and brother at C. T. Lowndes & Company on December 1, 1972 and have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the agency. I am very proud to be the fifth generation of the Lowndes family to own and operate the business. I ran the business from about 1983 until 2008 when I relinquished the day to day operation of the agency to Bill Silcox.

I married Esther Moseley in 1981 and we have two daughters, Alice and Sarah, both in their 20s and doing very well in life. Alice is married to a very fine young man, Brad Taylor, and they live on Lake Murray.

Earlier in life, I was very active in the Optimist Club of Charleston and was a youth baseball, softball, and football coach for many years. 

Nowadays, I enjoy deer hunting and hog hunting in the woods of Millbrook and Middleton Plantation and horseback riding at every opportunity. My wife and I enjoy traveling and visiting the National Parks. We have also started going on river cruises in Europe.  In addition, in the summertime, we frequent our mountain house near Boone, NC and I do a lot of hiking while up there.  Sarah and I have done several week-long whitewater rafting trips out West on the Snake and Salmon Rivers.

At C. T. Lowndes & Company, I serve as CEO and CFO but spend a lot of time reviewing your accounts and making sure your assets are properly insured and that you are getting the best coverage for your dollar. I certainly cannot review all accounts but am always happy to look at particular accounts upon request. Your satisfaction is very important to me.
