The kickoff event for the Sertoma High School Football Classic was held on Thursday, July 18. Cheerleaders from ten participating high school teams gathered at Riverbank Park in North Charleston for music and food and fun. The girls danced the afternoon away and sang karaoke. It was a beautiful afternoon with a nice breeze and, best of all, no mosquitoes!
This is an important event as most tickets for the Classic are sold by the Cheerleaders. Tickets were distributed to the cheerleader coaches by Sertoma President Debbie McKelvey. All schools sell as many tickets as possible in an effort to win the Sertoma Spirit Award, presented on the Friday night of the Classic. The Spirit Award competition is sponsored by Hendricks Chevrolet. Dean Foster was present to represent Hendricks.
For the third year, C. T. Lowndes & Company is the title sponsor of the Sertoma High School Football Classic. This local independent insurance agency will give away $1,000 to the winner of a drawing!! The money will be placed in a 529 Future Scholar College Fund administered by Merrill Lynch for the perspective college student.
A person must be 18 or older to enter the drawing. Registration is accomplished by Facebook in advance of the Classic and in person at the classic at the C. T. Lowndes & Company booth. The booth will be directly in front of you when you enter the Stadium. Those who register at the Classic will have an opportunity to win a prize complement of Safeco Insurance Company.
This year’s classic will be held at Johnson Hagood Stadium on the campus of the Citadel on Thursday, August 22, and Friday, August 23. Twenty eight local high school teams will participate. It is an exciting time for students and fans.
