Being a Board of Director member of the 9/11 Heroes Run Charleston allows me to encompass my beliefs of helping and thanking those who serve us while reflecting and honoring those who are no longer with us. My life has always been filled by those who serve, my father served in the USAF until retirement, and my husband is a First Responder. As a board member I am able to see firsthand the impact that our race has on our community, and how our donated funds assist our local beneficiaries and our military veterans and their families nationally.

Over the years the 9/11 Heroes Run Charleston has been able to donate back almost $25,000 to our community, by supporting the Charleston 9 Memorial Fund, Gifting Warriors, Charleston Fire Department,   SCFOP Distressed Officer's Fund, Lowcountry Firefighter Support Team and Summerville Fire Department, with an additional donation of almost $25,000 to the Travis Manion Foundation which assists our military, veterans and families of the Fallen on a national level. Proceeds from our 2015 event will again benefit the Travis Manion Foundation, and the City of Goose Creek Fire Department, SCFOP Distressed Officer's Fund, and C&B Volunteer Fire Department!

The Travis Manion foundation was founded after the death of 1st Lt. Travis Manion by his mother, the late Janet Manion, to empower our great nation’s veterans and families of the fallen and to ensure our nation’s fallen heroes are never forgotten. Before leaving for his second and final deployment Travis said “If Not Me, Then Who…” those words are so simple yet very powerful and inspiring, and have created a national movement.

This is our 4th annual race and we will host a very Special Guest of Honor, Medal of Honor recipient Corporal Kyle Carpenter, USMC (retired). Corporal Carpenter was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor on June 19, 2014 for this incredible act of bravery during a mission in Afghanistan on November 21, 2010. You will have the opportunity to meet him and thank him, as he will be interacting with crowd prior to our opening ceremonies.

The 9/11 Heroes Run, is more than a 5K, it’s a humbling, patriotic time for families, neighbors, strangers, OUR COMMUNITY to come together to HONOR our nations heroes, to remember those lost on 9/11 and pay tribute to those who continue to serve us!

Please come out and join us as we "honor the fallen, by challenging the living."
