On a recent weekend, my wife and I visited Donnelly Wildlife Management Area in Green Pond, SC. The beauty of nature in the Low Country is always amazing and unique.

Donnelly is an area where rice was planted in the old days and the rice fields stretch for miles.
Must have been quite a sight when in full production. These rice fields still exist with the trucks used to lower and raise the water level having been rebuilt. Such habitat makes the Low Country an ideal spot for many wading birds to feed and nest.

It was a warm January day and we were surprised to see an alligator out and about! We also saw wild turkeys and a couple of gorgeous fox squirrels, one jet black with a white nose area.

Donnelly is a neat place to visit with about a 10 mile driving tour with trails to hike.
