We residents in South Carolina are learning more and more about flood claims, FEMA, and available assistance.
One can apply for FEMA disaster assistance online at www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or 1-800-462-7585 (hearing and speech impaired).
FEMA usually asks for a letter from your insurance agent stating that you did not have a flood insurance policy. Your agent should provide this without delay.
The Independent Agents & Brokers Association of South Carolina has established a useful website at http://www.iiabsc.com/Resources/Pages/Related-Links/scflood.aspx.
There was a good article in the October 18th Post & Courier which provided some information on other sources of assistance. The link is

Good luck to all as we recover from this disastrous flood event.
