A pleasant drive in the ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge in the South Carolina Low Country takes one to the Grove Plantation, off Willtown Road in the Adams Run community. The beautiful white plantation house, built in 1828, is one of only three plantation homes in the ACE Basin to survive the War Between the States.
The Grove was a former rice plantation and the oaks are magnificent. Oh, if they could only tell the tales of what they have witnessed!
One can wonder the rice fields – just be on the alert for the many alligators lurking in the sun!
Not too far from The Grove is the Willtown Community (established in 1865) which provides a wonderful view of the South Edisto River.
