Everyone loves a ride in a limousine! And how long will those stretch limousines get!? Have you ever wondered as to the origin of the word “limousine”?

The first automobile limousine was built in 1902 and was originally an enclosed automobile with open driver's seat.  The covered compartment of the car resembled a type of cloak and hood that was worn by the shepherds of the Limousin region of France. Hence the name!  Limousines with an open driver’s seat were called a brougham and ones with a covered driver’s seat were termed a berline.

Limousines need insurance just like any other vehicle licensed for road use.

There are a few insurance companies that specialize in insuring limousines and the limousine owner   should secure a policy through one of these companies. An independent insurance agent has access to these companies and should be consulted when shopping for insurance. While pricing is always a factor, obtaining the proper coverage is essential.

Many insurance companies do not insure vehicle used for livery - transporting passengers for a fee. The exposure is just too great. Thus it is wise to insure through companies that specialize in writing insurance on livery vehicles.
