If you, like many millennials, do not have renter’s insurance, you are in the majority of renters. Over two thirds of renters are without renter’s insurance. So why don’t you have a renter’s homeowners insurance policy?
· You conclude – “Nothing will ever happen to me.”
· You think – “I don’t even lock my door. Nobody will steal from me”
· You invoke the common refrain – “It is too expensive.”
· Or you theorize – “My roommate has insurance so I am covered.”
You may never start a fire in your apartment but how about your careless neighbor above you or down the hall? Even if the fire does not reach your apartment, the smoke from the fire and water from the fire hoses will!
All your friends may be very honest but how about the neighbor three doors down that you have never met?
Expensive? Not hardly. Less than $200 per year. Don’t even think this is a valid reason!!
No, sorry, your roommate’s insurance does not cover your clothes or any of your belongings.
Have another conversation with yourself about renter’s insurance. And keep in mind a renter’s insurance policy provides liability protection in addition to fire, theft, etc. Everyone needs liability coverage to provide protection in event of a lawsuit.
