First of all, in our politically correct climate, the term Motor Carrier is just the new and more acceptable name for what we used to call Truckers.

There is a multitude of abbreviations regarding Truckers regulations and Truckers insurance and it can all be very confusing!! Here is an effort to help our South Carolina truckers to better understand these abbreviations:

DOT – Department of Transportation

FMCSA – Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

UCR – Unified Carrier Registration

URS – Unified Registration System

MCA80 – Motor Carrier Act of 1980

MCSA – Motor Carrier Safety Act

ICC – Interstate Commerce Commission

FR – Financial Responsibility

IFTA – International Fuel Tax Agreement

IRO – International Registration Plan

BMC91X – Certificate of Insurance Form

BOC – Blanket of Coverage

MCS90 – Endorsement to policy assuring protection to the public
