Some things to think about while you are out doing your holiday shopping.

Ø  Your debit card is your worst enemy. Think about it. If someone steals the card, they have direct access to your bank account!!

Ø  Limit use of checks. Think what you give away when you give a check to the cashier at the retail store— name address, bank routing number, bank account number and the cashier probably writes your driver’s license number and birth date on the check!!

Ø  Using a credit card is safest. The credit card companies have mastered the art of detecting fraud and there is a Federal Law that make the credit card company (Visa, MasterCard, etc.) responsible for any fraudulent transactions. The Chip method is almost foolproof so always “Chip” in lieu of “Swiping”.

Ø  If you are a social media user, do not advertise that you are leaving town for a few days. Thieves use social media too!

Ø  Use only a micro-cut shredder to shred all pertinent documents.

Happy Holidays for all of us at C. T. Lowndes & Company.
