The rainy season is fast approaching and we have already seen some wet days. Flooding can happen at any time and can be the result of things like heavy rain, blocked drains, burst water mains, and changing tides.

If there is standing or moving flood water blocking your path, do not attempt to drive through it! Flood water can stall your engine, cause unseen damage to the roadway, and even sweep cars off the road. Always try to find an alternate route to avoid driving through flood waters.

Be extra careful to ALWAYS avoid waters that may contain downed electrical or power lines.

If you attempt to drive through flood waters, your engine may stall. Restarting it can cause irreparable damage to the engine. If your car stalls in flood waters and will not restart, immediately abandon the vehicle for safer and higher ground. If you are unable to safely exit the vehicle, call 911 or attempt to get the attention of someone outside of the vehicle to call for help.

Remember, the best option is always: “Turn around, don’t drown!”
