Human Resources Manager: Sarah L H Lowndes, PHR

Sarah l H Lowndes, PHR

I am a proud Charleston native.  I grew up in the Lowcountry with my wonderful parents, Henry and Esther, both of whom I respect immensely, my older sister and best friend, Alice, and our high-energy Jack Russell Terriers, Riot, Libby, and Hannah.  I am an Ashley Hall alumni, Class of ’02, and graduated from the College of Charleston in December of 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.  I earned my MBA with a Concentration in Human Resources from Charleston Southern University in 2013.

My sister and I are quite fortunate to have parents who understood the benefits of traveling, and thus were able to visit some of the great highlights of the United States growing up.  My love for traveling and exploring our country and places around the world continues to this day.  During my undergrad, I participated in Semester at Sea, a study abroad program, spending a semester traveling around the world, visiting and immersing myself into the cultures of 10 countries, all while taking a full course load of classes.  It was the experience of a lifetime and remains a top highlight in my life!  In the summer of 2015 I completed a 7-week road trip around the US, mostly solo, visiting 39 states and traveling just over 11,000 miles.  As a result of my road trip, I have been fortunate to have now visited and explored all 50 states, all of which are beautifully unique in their own way.

I share a love for the outdoors, adventure, and our National Parks with my dad.  We have been on several multi-day whitewater rafting river trips out West, rafting the Snake, Middle Fork of the Salmon, and Rogue Rivers.  In September 2015, just days after completing my road trip, we rafted 226 river miles down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon over the course of 14 days.  It was an absolutely epic adventure and I am excited to be doing it again in 2020!

I currently live on Johns Island with my 4 sassy senior dogs that includes: my original crew, Reese and Montana (both 13+ years young and leaders of the household), and the new adoptees from Waters Edge Great Dane Rescue, Roxy (10) and Pebbles (11).  When I am not working, my favorite hobbies include photography, volleyball, writing, attempting to play guitar, reading, spending time with friends and family, and volunteering for Waters Edge Great Dane Rescue.  Several of my photographs are on display at some of our office locations and several local restaurants including Avondale Wine & Cheese in West Ashley, Lolo’s down at Folly Beach, Betty’s Eatery in Mount Pleasant, and Betty Lou’s in West Ashley.

Professionally, I have enjoyed a successful career in Human Resources for over 16 years.  I got my start in the HR field locally at Vought Aircraft Industries (now Boeing) during its start-up phase.  In 2006, I joined Textron Systems Corporation (formerly AAI Services Corporation), an Aerospace and Defense company.  Throughout my career with Textron Systems, I worked in various segments of the HR department to include roles in Talent Acquisition and Development, Employee Relations and Business Segment Support, and HR Operations which includes HRIS, Compensation, and Benefits.  In 2011, I relocated to Baltimore, MD for the opportunity to work out of the company headquarters with the larger HR team.  While in Baltimore, I also earned my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification, focusing primarily in process and workflow improvement and development and identifying cost reduction opportunities, and advanced within the organization into a leadership role.

After almost 10 years with Textron Systems, I elected to close out my career with the company as part of the HR leadership team in order to relocate back to the mostly snow-free climate of Charleston to join C.T. Lowndes & Company as the HR Officer.

Time has flown by since joining the Agency; as I continue to learn about the insurance industry, the respect I have for our employees grows exponentially – I am so impressed by the level and diversity of talent that we have here!  I am honored to be part of the 6th generation of the Lowndes family in the business, and I look forward to being part of the Agency for the remainder of my professional career.

Thank you for doing business with C.T. Lowndes & Company, we sincerely appreciate our customers and look forward to continuing to build a trusted relationship with you.
